Upper Valley Chapter

Who We Are

Muskies Canada Upper Valley Chapter

G'Day from the Upper Valley,

My name is Kert Lavigne and I am the current chairman of Upper Valley Chapter of Muskies Canada. Established in January 2006.We are based in the Ottawa Valley in Eastern Ontario, with membership stretching from Arnprior through to Pembroke. Our meetings are held the third Wednesday of each Month at Royal Canadian Legion 49 Daniel St Arnprior, Ontario. With the world-class fishery of the Ottawa River and its many tributaries at our doorstep, there are a variety of opportunities for both the novice and seasoned muskie angler.

We have a wealth of local muskie enthusiasts from near and far which makes our meetings informative, educational, and always entertaining. Our chapter is dedicated to the preservation and enjoyment of the local sport Muskie fishery, with an emphasis on public education and sharing of knowledge and ideas. We are strong believers in catch photo and release, If you have any questions on the Upper Valley chapter drop myself or membership director Chuck Albert a line.

Chapter Plans

Our 2009 season kicks off with a joint venture at The Valley Sportsman's show in Carp on April 3rd, 4th and 5th. Both the Ottawa and Arnprior chapters host a booth at this show as it is a great venue to spread our message and sign up a few more muskie nuts. Later in April we will again have our annual Launch Clean Up day. The group splits up and picks up all of the trash at local launches and their surrounding shorelines. Also in April through May we will be installing more KTD signs throughout the Valley and on the Quebec side of the Ottawa River.

As most of you know there are plans for a Catch and Release study on muskellunge to begin this summer. This study is being spear headed by the Ottawa Chapter and Carleton University. The Upper Valley will be lending whatever support is asked for or needed to aid in making this a success.

We are also currently in the early planning and information gathering stages of a couple of initiatives that may see our water ways getting a little cleaner in the coming years. Better for the fish, better for us and better for the public who rely on it for drinking water.

In December of last year we put together a program that has sinced been dubbed "The Muskie Angels". Kert Lavigne, our chairman, approached us with the idea of donating Christmas presents to less fortunate children in the area. This was a huge success and we look to continue this in 2009.

Angler Logs

With the continuous low participation level through all chapters, we look to really try and drive home the importance of submitting your log pages. We urge all members to take the initiative to complete a log for every day you go fishing. The information in the Log goes a long way to essentially keep our finger on the pulse of our fishery. It is the simplest way for each and every member to get involved in the club and to give a little back to the fishery. So please take the time, fill out your logs, get involved.

For more information on the Angler Log program go to the Angler Log Program link under General Information on our home page or contact Jonathan Jordan at jnthnjrdn@yahoo.com 613-851-7649

Message to our sponsors

I would like to take this opportunity to thank our many sponsors for their amazing support they have shown us over the years. Because of your contributions we once again had a very successful Party in the Prior. We had close to 70 anglers from all over Ontario and Quebec come to Arnprior for a wonderful event. We were able to raise money for our chapter and for the betterment of the local fishery. So, from all the members of the Upper Valley family I would like to send out a Big Thank you to:
