The 2010 annual face to face Board of Directors meeting (BOD) will be held in Peterborough Ontario on Saturday and Sunday, February 20 and 21. Our hosts for the meeting, Jeremiah Wade and the Kawartha Lakes Chapter, have finalized arrangements for the meeting. A special "Thank You" from all of us to Jim Hutchings and Dan Spencer of the Gananoque Chapter who hosted the previous several BOD's.
A block of 15 rooms, each containing 2 double beds or equivalent, has been reserved for members of Muskies Canada at the Holiday Inn Peterborough Waterfront Hotel, 150 George St North. The room rate is a discounted $115 per night plus taxes. The hotel is easy walking distance from the meeting location, Rileys Olde Towne Pub, 253 George St North. Since there is a major hockey tournament in the area the weekend of the BOD, the hotel can only hold the rooms until January 19 so make your accomodation arrangements now. The toll free number at the hotel is 1-866-258-5181 and say you are a member of Muskies Canada... I've just made mine and the system works. If you wish more economical accomodations, please call Jeremiah Wade (705-740-5559) and he will be pleased to help you.
The Holiday Inn has a restaurant and bar. We'll reserve a large table for Muskies Canada members for 7'ish on the Friday evening, Feb 19. For those who can make it, we can renew acquaintances, have a couple of cold ones and get a bite together.
The Saturday and Sunday meetings and Saturday night dinner will be held in the second floor meeting rooms at Rileys. There will be coffee, juice and muffins at 9:30am on Saturday morning and the meeting will commence at 10 am. We'll have a working sandwich lunch, then break for a reception and buffet dinner about 6pm. The new members of our Hall of Fame and the winner of our 2010 Paul Gasbarino Distinguished Service Award will be recognized. Our after dinner speaker, Sean Landsman, a graduate student at Carlton University and recipient of our 2009 Dr. Ed Crossman Student Award, will then give us a presentation on the Catch and Release Study which he led. The meeting will reconvene at 8:30am on Sunday morning, with coffee, juice and muffins available, and conclude at noon. A second speaker, Dr. Heather Lord from University of Waterloo, will give us a presentation on the non-lethal study on muskie, the top of the fish food chain, in the Great Lakes Watershed which they wish to do in 2010, working closely with the Ontario MNR and Muskies Canada.
National will cover the cost of the meeting rooms, coffee, juice and muffins on Saturday and Sunday mornings, the lunch on Saturday, and will pay a 15 cent per kilometer travel allowance for each member of NEC. The Saturday evening buffet and room costs are for the attendees and Chapters account.
Please send me the topics which you would like covered at the BOD. And please let me know of potential Dr. Ed Crossman Graduate Student Awards that you are aware of for 2010 so that they can be included in the budget.
A draft BOD Agenda, copies of 2009 minutes (from Steve Nelson) and final 2009 financial statements and 2010 budget (from Kevin Linder) will be forwarded to you later in January.
I'm looking forward to a very good two days with you in Peterborough in February. We accomplished a lot in 2009 and have a lot more miles to put on in 2010.
