Muskie Fishing News 2018

Asian Carp Invasion Threatens Great LakesJanuary 22 2010

As stewards of our Canadian waters we need to do everything possible to stop this invasion

Have you enjoyed the opportunity to fish for Muskie or all the native species that they feed on? If so you need to know about the Asian Carp. Maybe you already do. This fish has been allowed to move up the Mississippi and Illinois rivers their tributaries and are now staged in the Chicago Sanitary and Shipping Canal, the Wilmette Lock and the Downtown Chicago Lock. If they go any further they will be into Lake Michigan with clear passage to our Canadian waters. The possibility to reaching the St Lawrence and the Kawarthas over time is not out of question. The fresh cold waters of the Great lakes and forage is exactly what they thrive on. If they do we can say goodbye to the future fishing as we know it and our children or for me my grandchildren will never have the pleasure of cruising to our/their favourite fishing destinations.

The $7 billion dollar per year fishery throughout the Great Lakes and potentially all their tributaries as we know them will be devastated. The Asian Carp has a voracious appetites and has very rapid reproduction rates. It is clear that our Great Lakes can not support a potentially 100 lb fish that eats up to 40% of it's body weight every day and ravages the our natural ecosystem. As stewards of our Canadian waters we need to do everything possible to stop this invasion.

Take time to do some research. Simply search Asian Carp and surf. You will be overwhelmed with information and shocked that this has been allowed to happen.
