U.S. Supreme Court declined to address the threat of Asian Carp through the legal system
Even as we discuss the direction the the US government has agreed to go and committed multi millions of dollars to the protection of the Great Lakes the courts side against the closing of the canals and locks at this time and to allow the potential of an Asian Carp invasion. Consequently the zero-tolerance pledge by the Federal Government to invasive species seems to be lost. Once again the quality of our Great Lakes ecosystem seems to get lost in the every day operation of a transportation system that has the potential to create a crisis in about 15-20 years. The loss of an international fishery is certainly possible.
