Muskie Fishing News 2018

KTD Educational Program Update by Ian YoungSeptember 24 2010

Muskies Canada is proceeding with its initiative to protect the muskellunge (muskie) by educating the fishing world about the differences between muskie and northern pike.

KTD Educational Program Update by Ian Young

"Know the Difference" signs have pictures of muskie and northern pike on them which include the main differentiating features. These signs are now displayed at marinas, fishing camps and launch ramps on many of the lakes and rivers in Ontario and Quebec that contain both species.

10,000 plasticized "Know the Difference" cards have been printed in English and distributed to Muskies Canada's Chapters for fishing camps, fishing equipment stores, marinas and fishing shows. The French cards are currently in process and will be completed shortly. These cards have the muskie and northern pike pictures on the front and proper handling and release techniques on the back. We thank our major sponsor, the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources, who covered half the cost of the English cards.

The 2011 Ontario Recreational Fishing Regulations will have a half page educational ad on the muskellunge which emphasizes its uniqueness and discloses the main differences between muskie and northern pike with the pictures.
