Muskie Fishing News 2017

2011 Muskie Odyssey Report - by Dax JacklinApril 14 2011

The 2011 Muskie Odyssey was a huge success! Attendance was up about 30% from the 2009 Odyssey, and we managed to raise about $10,000 for the cause! We had great vendors, many of which donated over and above their table fee to help raise funds for Muskie Conservation and Research!

Anchoring each end of the hall were Pro Tackle and Fishing World. Angling Outfitters and the O.M.N.R. booth shared the center with the Muskies Canada information Booth. We had some awesome bait makers, Frank DiMarcantonio displaying his FrankyBaits, Brett Cournoyea had some beautiful examples of his work, Shawn Maher had a great selection of his quality baits. Paul and Lidio Azevedo's Blue Water Baits display looked amazing as did Mike and Danna Parker's HandleBarz Lures booth.

Bruce Bauer had a great selection of his "in-lines" at the Angling Outfitters booth, Greg Videki and Tony Gallucci had great displays of their products. We had Monster Tubes by Red October Baits, Swim Baits from Bondy Baits, some incredible paintjobs by Dave Michaluk at Bare Bones Baits! Water Wolf lures had a huge display.

Art work was available from Charles Weiss and Curtis Atwater. Bob Stirling had a full compliment of St.Croix rods to sample. The Niagara Musky Association had a nice display, they are another great conservation minded club!

Andrea Childs from Scotsman Point Resort had a nice display, Andrea is always supportive of MCI and generously donated 2 weekends and a full week's stay to the Silent Auction. There were also rods, nets, custom lures, guided trips, resort stays on the two Silent Auction tables.

The Seminars were well attended, especially our headliner Jim Saric's two shows. Both of Jim's shows, the morning solo and the afternoon with Mike Lazarus were full houses, and well worth it to hear these two Muskie experts. Sean Landsman gave a great presentation on his catch and release study, 'Project Noble Beast'. Jocelyn Leung gave an informative seminar on properly using your Sonar/GPS units.

The 2011 Odyssey could only happen because a very dedicated group spent over a year planning it. The Odyssey Committee was lead by MCI Vice-President and Odyssey committee veteran Vince Giuliani. The rest of the crew was made up of K/W Chapter Chairman Rick "DTR" Langford, Hamilton Chapter Chairman John Dieroff, Kawartha Lakes Chapter Chairman Tom McCutcheon, Hamilton Chapter Membership Director Mike McCutcheon, MCI Membership Director Bruno Biancucci, MCI Treasurer Kevin Linder, MCI Public Education Director Dax Jacklin, K/W member Clayton Spencer, and MCI President Ian Young. With special help again from Ken Taggart who helped create several versions of the Odyssey advertisement, Dan Araquel, who's technical assistance is invaluable, not to mention lending his special "vocal talent" to the microphone on the day of the OdysseyÂ…

We had a bunch of hard working volunteers the day of the Odyssey, it wouldn't happen without them either! Thanks goes out to Bruce Park, Marc Pitre, Dave Allan, Ross Nichols, Tom McArthur, Tom Long, Barry Smith, Keith Davison, Pete Rajewski, Mike Swan, Jerry Sir, Kurt Reinhardt, Mark Blasman, Christopher Radusin, Steve Bedarf, John Creighton, Dave Creighton, Larry Lambourne, Bob Wright, Bob McLeod, Dave Adamson, Glenn Tonge, Barry Tsuruda, Paul Mountain, Mike Goodhew, and Larry's Brother-in-law (who isn't even a member), Ted Lesniczek.

Believe it or not, planning has already begun for the 2013 Muskie Odyssey. If you would like to become involved please contact Vince Giuliani.
